  19. what a joke, same people every year, does anyone at DJ Awards actual go to the clubs, know whats really happening or even bothered about the dj’s that are really making waves!! This list is tired, predictable and everyone knows whos going to win…. move over, let the people decide the nominees first!!!

  20. Hey Jacob,

Right, so let’s go through this, ok?

    1. A joke? Are you calling the merits of these nominated DJs a joke? While everyone is entitled to their own subjective opinion, I would like to know which of these DJs are to you a joke? They work hard, and the world knows them, call them what you want but they cant be considered a joke. Is Deadmau5 a joke? Is Guetta a joke? You may not like them, but these guys are filling their sails with the winds of global demand to the point where they have commanded the full and undivided attention of highest powers in the music industry. They are bringing the electronic beat to millions and millions of people around the world. You may not like it, but its definitely not a joke in my opinion.

    2. Same people every year? I would say 85% yes, just like politics, the Oscars, your family, the billboard top 40, religion, the trees in the forest. But there is always new things, and for that we have the breakthrough and newcomer category, in which 85% of the artist are new every year. Take a look at the trance category and tell which of these artist do NOT belong there? Now the trance scene is in an immobile state of super-stardom, I agree to this, but as the DJ Awards we have to reflect the scene demand. The problem is that when a courageous promoter attempts to book a high quality but totally unknown DJ then very few people show up and the numbers simply don’t add up, so promoters turn to big safe names for the biggest events to pay for the smaller gigs. But sadly history is written by those HUGE events. As the DJ Awards we reflect the state of affairs, we don’t/won’t/can’t police it.

    3. Do we go to the clubs? no, its better than that, the panel is made of over a hundred industry people and activist whose expertise covers the entire history of electronic music. They don’t go out, they LIVE out, 4 to 7 nights a week, some for over 20 years. Personally, I think we’ve got it covered.

    4. You say the “DJ’s that are really making the waves” are missing? Look, I am more than happy to hear your suggestions rather that just plain criticism. Would you be so kind as to provide me with a new proposed list of categories and nominees. I would like to see a complete picture of what it is you have in mind here, I am aware of your feelings but show me your reasons.

    5. You say “everybody knows who is going to win”? Well, there’s two way to read that. A: Everybody know because everybody agrees that these DJ’s should win, which is my viewpoint or B: Its fixed behind closed doors, but yet STILL everybody apparently knows who is going to win?!? I believe this is your viewpoint. Generally when results are fixed is winner is a surprise. While I sympathise with the point of view that results are not as surprising or exciting as the world cup, those are still the results that we have to report. Tiger Woods won everything in Golf for a decade, boring in a way, amazing in another way. You are free to choose which of these two ways you’d like to see it.

    5. “let the people decide the nominees first”? go ahead, be the first to propose the new list nominees, I will listen to you as if you’re the entire panel, and I’m happy to do so.

Look, I want to hear every view, I know you feel strongly about the scene so I am naturally interested in the content of your opinion, which I will value.

Finally, this is not a competition, and there is no BEST. This is art, its subjective, hard to measure in value, but one thing that we definitely can measure is thousands of people, dancing in unison.

Looking forwards to hear from you.

    Take it most easily
